Why we invested in Shakers

When we met Héctor, Nico, Jaime and Adri in July 2023, it was clear they were building more than just a product, they were creating a movement in Spain around "freeworking," addressing a critical pain point for traditional companies. The connection was immediate. They had everything we look for: promising early traction proving a strong market pull, a team of seasoned and complementary founders, a healthy balance of ambition and humility, and exceptional technical expertise paired with deep market insights. There was something truly special about them and their vision.

The market opportunity

In today’s fast-paced product cycles, building and assembling the right team (humans + AI agents) in minutes can mean the difference between gaining a first-mover advantage or falling behind. Many traditional companies are struggling to hire the talent they need to execute vital digital transformation projects and stay competitive. Meanwhile, the professionals with these in-demand skills increasingly prefer the flexibility and freedom of freelancing.  

Shakers’ platform enables exactly that: it allows companies to form mission-critical freelance (soon including AI agents whenever it is relevant) teams on demand by connecting them with pre-vetted squads. The platform not only accelerates the hiring, onboarding and project delivery process but does so more efficiently, affordably, and seamlessly than traditional methods. At the same time, freelancers gain access to better-paying, longer-term projects, along with training opportunities.

The team achieves this on two levels: for organisations, by granting on-demand access to scarce expertise, and for individuals, by empowering freelancers to learn, work, and thrive through diverse projects.

How Shakers works

Shakers is building the infrastructure for the future of work. At the core of platform is a combination of an AI-powered matchmaking engine and an integrated “Freelancer OS". For companies, it’s simple: they post a very simple brief of a project (similar to a prompt), and the system analyses their requirements to propose a fully vetted team within minutes. For freelancers, the platform provides a suite of tools for project management, payment handling, and support - all in one place.

The numbers tell the story: Shakers has vetted 400 freelancers, boasts a waitlist of 10,000, serves 450+ client companies, including major names like Microsoft, Inditex, BBVA, Telefónica, and HP, among others. The company also experienced strong growth with 6x growth in 12 months.

Looking ahead

With a fresh Series A round under their belts, the team plans to deepen their AI capabilities and expand across Europe.
